Artist’s Statement

I try to convey joy through my paintings, whether as landscapes, portraits, or still lives.   I work in front of the motif and paint directly from life as much as possible, aiming for a sense of place.   I want the viewer to be moved by my work and have a happy, positive emotional reaction.   The living English painters who I admire and who inspire me are Peter Brown and David Curtis.   I also admire the works of the late Ken Howard, Sargent, and Velasquez.

Michael is also a professional actor who has worked extensively in the West End, National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, Globe Theatre, and on television.
