DIANA HILTON

at the Joel Gallery, Cornwall

Diana Hilton was born in South Shields in 1955.

As Diana Favell she trained as a ballet dancer at the Arts Educational School in Hertfordshire until she was 16, then made her career for the next 20 years in theatre stage management, at London’s Young Vic, the Chichester Festival Theatre, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, the Royal Exchange in Manchester and the Bristol Old Vic. She now lives in Cornwall with her actor-husband, Andrew, and still works as a stage manager in the conference industry.

In 1990, Diana did a Foundation Course at the School of Art & Design in Bristol where she learned etching from the printmaker Steve Hoskins.

Some of her work reflects her earlier life in the theatre, and some is inspired by her love of Cornwall and her involvement in Andrew’s ‘Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory’ company in Bristol.

Her etchings have been shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions of 1996 and 1998, at Chester’s Watergate Street Gallery and, in Bristol, at the Royal West of England Academy, the Tobacco Factory, the Bristol Guild, and the University’s Theatre Collection.
